Rhajaa Wright
{Program Manager
With a background in youth development, wellness, and community-based programming, Rhajaa has worked in various after-school programs, non-profits, and universities (USD and UCSD) across San Diego and beyond. Her mission is to create spaces for youth and young adults to explore their identity in order to undergo their own self-transformation, and in turn have the capacity and energy to transform the world in whatever way they see fit. Rhajaa had a former passion to be an "educator" in the traditional sense, yet had an inkling that she might feel confined by the parameters of the traditional public school system. Instead, inspired by her grandma, who although wasn't formally educated, was one of the most brilliant people Rhajaa knew, she now hopes to help people find their own self-education through arts, self-expression, and healing. With her experience in supporting instructors, and building and managing programs, Rhajaa hopes to bring her skillset, warmth and authenticity to her work at The AjA Project. Although she doesn't usually describe herself as an artist, one of the earliest messages she heard while being at The AjA Project is that "everyone is an artist". She believes this is an absolute truth, and that message echoes through her earliest experiences writing and creating picture books when she was younger, to her early career advocating for culturally relevant hip-hop education, and in present day, her love for dance and crafting. Rhajaa knows that we are all artists, and art is everywhere..
