Inter + Regeneration Fellowship
INTER+Regeneration is a fellowship from The AjA Project that brings generations together within San Diego’s refugee communities. Working with partner organizations, our fellows help elders and youth share stories of home, migration, history, and belonging, and turn that exchange into public art made by and for the community.
Fellows are mentored in AjA’s participatory methodology while growing their own practice as artists and cultural producers. Over the course of the fellowship, they combine traditional cultural practices with contemporary media arts like photography, video, audio, and digital storytelling, so that cultural knowledge is not only preserved but carried forward in new forms.
How The Fellowship Works
Cultural Asset Mapping
Fellows begin by listening. Through conversations and community research, they identify the people, traditions, gathering places, stories, and skills that make their community strong.
Intergenerational workshops
Building on what they learn, fellows design and lead six to eight workshops where elders and youth create together, pairing cultural practices with media arts.
Public Artwork & Exhibition
The fellowship culminates in a public artwork shaped by workshop participants and installed in a meaningful location within or connected to the community’s neighborhood.
